As part of our preventative maintenance programme we have taken our gas engine off-line for a major rebuild during which our engineers will be replacing all sixteen pistons and liners. This is good operating practice and this significant investment will allow the engine to run with the same high levels of reliability we have seen in previous years.

The gas system will continue to harvest and extract landfill gas from the site during these works with the gas being combusted in the on-site flare. The picture below shows one of the pistons and liner sets next to a pen to give an idea of the size of the cylinder heads, each of which sit above the pistons and liners.

We have also started the installation of the FML (Flexible Membrane Liner) in the new cell. The photo below shows the engineered clay liner, which has the surface smoothed. The black plastic liner is laid over the top of this. The works are supervised by an independent engineer from Terraconsult who verifies that the installation is being carried out to the required standards.

We would urge any residents detecting an odour or reporting a problem to call us direct on our dedicated helpline – 07961 403 782. This will enable us to respond as quickly as possible and trace the potential source of any issue.
