Site Update 22nd October 2018

Some of our neighbours may have noticed some work that was recently undertaken on the area above the main haul road on site. This work was in preparation for further capping and involved the screening of material to remove any large items that could potentially pierce and compromise the capping material. This work is now complete, and we will soon move on to the next phase. We continue work to restore a number of areas on the site where waste…

Site Update 13th September 2018

Work has progressed well on the development of the new cell area (see photo below) and we expect this to be complete within the next 10 – 12 weeks. Elsewhere on the site we are planning works to cap an area of approximately 9,000 m2 from the centre of the site heading towards the eastern boundary. We will also be installing a series of deep gas wells in this area to further improve our landfill gas extraction and optimise the…

Site Update 6th August 2018

Unauthorised Access Recently there have been a number of instances of unauthorised access onto the Clayton Hall landfill site. Any unaccompanied entry on to an active landfill site, without the correct safety equipment and briefing, clearly presents a number of potential risks for those involved. As a result, we have made a number of repairs to the boundary fencing and increased the out of hours security presence. The police have also been informed. We would ask anyone who thinks their…

Site Update 11th July 2018

As part of our preventative maintenance programme we have taken our gas engine off-line for a major rebuild during which our engineers will be replacing all sixteen pistons and liners. This is good operating practice and this significant investment will allow the engine to run with the same high levels of reliability we have seen in previous years. The gas system will continue to harvest and extract landfill gas from the site during these works with the gas being combusted…

Site Update 27th June 2018

Over the weekend the Environment Agency informed us that they had received approximately 11 reports of odour during the course of Saturday night (23/6/18). We also received one call to our residents’ helpline on Sunday. The odour however was not picked up on site and has not been detectable since, which presents a challenge in terms of identifying the point of source on the site. All the seals and gas extraction infrastructure have been checked and we will continue to…

Site Update 8th June 2018

Over the last week we have started to broaden our waste acceptance into the site. To date we have not experienced any adverse impacts but we will continue our close monitoring of the situation. In the new cell we have been working on the engineered clay liner (see photo). The next phase will see the installation of a flexible membrane liner. We expect to start to accept waste into the new cell in the autumn, subject to validation by the…

Site Update 1st June 2018

We have been gradually increasing waste inputs into the site since resuming operations on the 21st of May. To date we have not experienced any issues resulting from the resumption of waste management activity. This will continue to be a phased process working to a methodology that was developed with the Environment Agency and will be monitored by them in their role as the site regulator. Emissions monitoring will continue to be carried out 7 days a week to ensure…

Site Update 18th May 2018

Following the successful completion of the capping, plans have now been agreed with the Environment Agency (EA) that will enable us to start to accept waste back in to the landfill site. This will start on Monday 21st May and will be a phased process working to a methodology that has been developed in conjunction with, and agreed by, the EA. These plans have also been presented to and discussed with representatives from the Site Liaison Committee at our meeting…

Site Update 4th May 2018

Work has been undertaken this week to improve the seal on the capping in a couple of small areas in the southeast corner of the site. This work is now complete and we are confident that there is an adequate seal in place. We will continue to monitor the site to ensure that there are no further areas that require attention. Discussions have continued with the Environment Agency to develop a plan that will enable us to start to accept…

Site Update 27th April 2018

Having successfully anchored the capping using the long reach excavator we expect the work in the southeast corner of the site to be completed today. We are also confident that the three new pin wells will be connected to the existing infrastructure and will start collecting landfill gas from this area. This concludes the planned capping works and we will continue to monitor the site to ensure that there are no further areas that require attention. We are now entering…
